Temporary Use of Museum Spaces

The Director may grant temporary use of certain spaces within the museums:
Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Museo delle Cappelle Medicee, Museo di Palazzo Davanzati, Museo di Orsanmichele, Museo di Casa Martelli

Reproduction of cultural assets is permitted, without profit, for purposes of study, research, free expression of thought or creative expression, and the promotion of knowledge (Art. 108, paragraph 3bis of Legislative Decree January 22, 2004, no. 42, Italian Cultural Heritage Code). Visitors taking photos and videos in the spaces of the Bargello Museums must follow procedures that do not involve any physical contact with the object, exposure to light sources, or the use of tripods.

Distribution

The Bargello Museums provide distribution of images of their spaces and artworks from their collections, after verifying their availability in the archive.

The images are provided in TIFF and/or JPG formats, subject to reimbursement as follows:

• For students and academics, for study and research purposes, and for scientific publications: €10.00 per image.
• For other users: €30.00 per image.

If the reproduction is not available at the Museum, the requester may commission a photographer to carry it out while the museum is closed.

Authorization is subject to the transfer of the original reproduction and all related rights to the Bargello Museums, which may use it for institutional and scientific communication and distribution purposes.

The requester is responsible for the third party costs incurred for the assistance and supervision personnel, if necessary for the extraordinary opening of the museum, the number of which is determined by the head of the facility.

Disclosure of images: use

Disclosure of legitimately acquired images for non-profit purposes is permitted, provided that they are not further reproduced for commercial purposes.

Authorizations for the Use of Artwork Images

For uses for scientific or commercial purposes, different from those previously mentioned in the ‘Images’ section, a fee is required, calculated in accordance with the guidelines adopted by the Ministry of Culture, Decree No. 161 of 11/04/2023 (and amended by D.M. 187 1/05/2023).

For all other types of derivative uses, the rates established by the Bargello Museums apply (TARIFF FOR REPRODUCTION PERMISSIONS AND DERIVATIVE USES)

You will first receive the payment request for the fee, and once the payment is made, you will receive the permission.

Permission for Professional Image Acquisition

It is possible to take photographs and shoot videos in the Bargello Museums for the professional acquisition of images of spaces and artworks, subject to authorization and the payment of a fee, as provided for by the ‘Italian Cultural Heritage Code’ (Legislative Decree No. 42 of 22/01/2004, Articles 107-108).

On the other hand, the reproduction of cultural assets (other than bibliographic and archival assets) is permitted, provided it does not involve any physical contact with the object, exposure to light sources, or the use of tripods or stands within cultural institutions.

Professional shoots are normally possible when the museum is closed, with the assistance of security personnel provided by the museums, whose service is paid separately (third-party costs).
